Adding a on Mouse Down to a custom view or custom control

So I am building a custom meter. I have experimented with both a customview (the wavespectrum view) and the VuMeterEx and created mirrors of the classes with my own name. I actually like both methods.

The VuMeterEx post can be seen here : https://www.willpirkle.com/forum/vstguy4/meters-and-labels/

I have two versions; one which keeps the maxPeak tracked inside the processing frames loop and one which keeps it inside the class which is checked inside the draw functions. I have done it this way because I have been trying to figure out how to add a reset maxPeak call when the user clicks the window.

I have tried to hack together code using other example objects for both inside the Core side, and the Object side. I think this post is close :

but my C++ is too poor to make it work.

TL:DR :   Does anyone have any idea how to add in a on click reset on a meter or custom view? Would be highly appreciated!
