I finally got the synth book yesterday and spent all last night skimming it. I wish I'd had this book in 2014 when I was writing my soft synth. There's so much I had to figure out the hard way. So much I did suboptimally.
(OTOH, I pretty much nailed the chapter 5 diamond challenge. )
Thank you, Will, for a great resource!
And since this is the questions forum, will you be covering physical modeling in the new edition? If not, what good physical modeling resources do you know of?
Thanks for the kind remarks. The planned 2nd edition book will include a physical model section and project but mainly staying with Karplus-Strong and the numerous variants (which when combined with FM can do some amazing stuff).
The Julius Smith notes and book on modeling physical systems are good resources, but often physical modeling gets balled up with other stuff (mechanics) where the application to audio synthesis becomes obscured or limited.
Glad you got the Chapter 5 challenge!
