Did anyone here ever try to implement the sostenuto pedal and/or sustain pedal *value* (so not just on/off) in their synth?   Just curious.

If so, how did you implement, what do the pedals actually do in your synth?

The sustain and sostenuto pedals are not designed to transmit continuous values. The MIDI spec just says the value is OFF (<63) or ON (>=63).

But, if you wanted to make a "slow pedal" then you have access to the MIDI data data directly in RackAFX, AU and AAX.

VST3 requires that you map the pedal CC to an internal variable (it is a source of arguments on their forum).

If you are using RackAFX7, just trap the processMIDIEvent( ) message that will send you the exact CC value from the pedals then you can use it.

Since the sustain pedal creates an over-ride in any output EG that holds the sustain state of the FSM, I'm not sure how you'd use that pedal for sustain.

But in the end, both pedals are just MIDI CCs that are transmitted like the rest.
