In the Synth book, you state that you need Visual Studio Professional to create VST3 plugins. I see Microsoft now has new nomenclature for the VS family. Express now appears to be Community, which it says is fully featured. Do you know if this new free version can be used for VST3?
the "Express Edition" of Visual Studio is a very cut-down version but free for everyone. The newer Community-Edition actually is the full "Professional" Version of Visual Studio (despite some advanced integration stuff with team foundation servers afair). It is not in general free for everyone, but in practice it is free for everybody not owning a commercial license anyway these days (it is even free for "small" businesses). Both versions should work for VST3.
