Is it possible to configure my VST3 project so I can build it with Visual Studio on my Windows machine and run the resulting .vst3 file on a Mac?
I am working with the VST 3.6.5 SDK in Visual Studio Community 2015. I have noticed precompiler directives in the Steinberg code such as #if MAC and #if __APPLE__, which leads me to believe that I can get a Mac build with the right configuration. I have tried going into my project's Property Pages and adding some of the MAC and APPLE Preprocessor Definitions to a new build configuration, but the code under #if MAC is still grayed out when choosing the new build configuration.
Any help is greatly appreciated. The effects and synth book are both awesome and I would love to get some of my projects running on Mac. Thank you.
Not possible. The Mac version must be built in XCode in MacOS. The binaries for Win/Mac are incompatible.
If you use Make VST to spin off your VST project, then the Mac version is now simpler - it compiles both VST2 and VST3 versions and places them in the proper folder for you. Previously, you had to do some editing of project files to get this to happen.
