Hi there -
Just starting out with RackAFX - looks like a lot of fun! I'll be running on my Macbook Air 2013, and am wondering if you have any recommendations regarding which version of Windows to install; Windows 8? Windows 7? Windows XP? I'll probably run in Parallels (I have an older machine with XP running under Parallels, but I'll do a fresh install on this machine.
Any thoughts?
Also, which version of Visual Studio should I be using on this machine? Express?
Sorry, but Windows is not something I deal with much, and I'm just not familiar with that world.
Thanks!
Rich
Hi Rich
I also use Parallels - it rocks, especially if you use the MakeAU feature to port to XCode/MacOS.
I am currently using RackAFX in Windows 8.1, Windows 7 and even XP. I use both VS2008 and VS2013 Express and Pro versions. There is no advantage to the Pro versions unless you want to create your own GUI (but you'll need to understand Windows resources and GUI programming first).
I have two setups right now that use the following combinations:
Win7/32-Bit + VS2008, VS2010, VS2012 and VS2013
Win8.2/64-Bit + VS2008 and VS2013
For OS's I still like Win7 because I don't use any of the Win8 Apps (yet?) and I still have the Start Button. But, Win8 boots way faster and doesn't do the annoying "update your OS while you are trying to leave the office" things.
VS2013 is currently my favorite and I like the color inversion you can do with it to save your eyes.
There are a lot of options but RackAFX is flexible in that it runs just as well on any OS and supports both the Express and Pro versions of VS.
All the best,
Will
