Many thanks for your awesome RackAFX and ASPiK projects.
They seem to remain largely unknown for some reason, and completely undeservedly so.
Whenever I come across a post or comment on social media with someone asking for a good place to start with audio plugin development, I mention ASPiK / RackAFX as the only viable Free and Open Source option.
I have a question regarding Visual Studio:
Your Github repository at https://github.com/willpirkleaudio/ASPiK mentions VS 2015 and 2017 as the supported versions.
Is it safe to use 2019 instead?
I need to reinstall VS anyway, and I like staying up-to-date with things, so am I okay to download and install 2019?
Many thanks again,
Stay safe and healthy,
Thanks for the kind words - yes, it seems that people like to forget about RackAFX and ASPiK - they are free and open source so difficult to monetize for them.
Anyway, yes both RackAFX and ASPiK support VS2019 and we used it all last semester. For ASPiK you need to change the cmake command slightly; this is in the ASPiK SDK that you have on your disc, but not on the online version yet (I made some big alterations).
VS 2019 (for VST3 and AAX) 64-bit:
cmake -G"Visual Studio 16 2019" ../
64-bit builds are the default now so you don't need the "Win64" as in the old cmake commands.
Anyway, yes both RackAFX and ASPiK support VS2019 and we used it all last semester.
Awesome, I will go ahead with installing VS2019
I don't expect any problems, but in the unlikely event that I encouter any, I will report in a new post.
By the way, I came across a developer who uses RackAFX and credits you by name in one of his videos:
around the 14:18 mark.
You may already know about him, but in case you didn't, here you go
Many thanks again,
Stay safe & healthy,
