Does RackAFX have a "Save-As" feature, whereby it would be possible to take an existing RackAFX project that one has created earlier, save it under a different name into a different folder, with a new 4-char unique product code, etc?
I don't see it under the file menu.
It seems to me that this would be useful, e.g. to have simpler base projects (e.g. a simple EQ with one band), that evolve into derived, more complex projects (e.g. a dynamic EQ based on the simpler one, or one that has more bands, etc).
There is not a direct way to do this. I do have a Backup Project utility that will make a copy of the project, but it does not change the four-character codes.
The backup project idea came from a student many years ago, who lost a bunch of work during a late night of debugging. She had her plugin working, then made a few changes, and couldn't remember how to revert the code back, and got very frustrated.
The earlier version attempted to generate new class names (this was part of RAFX1, and now obsolete) but whenever you do brute-force string replacement in C++ code, bad things usually happen, so when I created RAFX2, I removed the dependency for class names (PluginCore never changes its name, unlike the method in RAFX1).
I can definitely add something like this in the future, but it would only generate new 4-char codes and would not want to attempt doctoring up other strings to avoid those pitfalls.
