Hi Tom
I just tried a fresh install on a Win 10 machine, and had no issues with startup etc...
Do you have Visual Studio 2015, 17, or 19 already installed? If not, please install one of them first to see if additional files are needed.
It is possible (though I've never seen it) that a virus protection may be involved.
I have a quick maintenance rev of RackAFX to release and I will add a diagnostic version somehow that will let you see when during the boot-up phase the software halts. It may be very simple to track down, but I've been running RackAFX in Win10 since Win10 came out, with no OS-intrinsic issues, or crashes. Also, we've been running it on Win10 for several years at the University where I work.
Let me know about the Visual Studio install and be on the lookout for a new revision; I'll add instructions here for a diagnostic version when it is ready.

I have VS2017 and VS2019 installed.
If you can dump a log file, I can send it to you. I can also run it under WinDbg if you want to add a few OutputDebugString() messages in there.

Thanks, Tom - I was adding a logfile thing, but decided to try one thing first. This version removes a user exception that has been benign (and has to do with a custom tab-view) and adds some basic message box debugging, and removes an old file-tree-view that used to be visible when you pulled the right side of the GUI open.
Please run it and tell me what happens. Note that one of the message boxes will be behind the splash screen, but you will be able to grab the title-bar and pull it up to click OK (the splash will be frozen until you do so).
If it does not crash let me know.
If it does crash, let me know what was on the last message box before the crash. Once open, you should see the set of 80 knobs and a dark background.
To install:
1. go to ../Program Files/RackAFX 7.0 and rename the RackAFX.exe to something else (rather than deleting or moving it)
2 unzip the file below and drop the new .exe into the folder.
3. run RackAFX.exe
I have a newfound sh**load of work to do on the FX book project code thanks to VSTSDK 3.7.X and Catalina OS so I will be doing that while you are testing. This will also probably require a small ASPiK update too.
Once you report back, then I can proceed. I'll email you directly after uploading the beta here.
Here's the beta version:

Thanks for helping debug this issue, Tom. I've got a new release version of RackAFX 7.0.2.3 that includes the fixes from your issues.
NOTE: the problem here was an exception being thrown during the MIDI Open function, that talks to the driver to open the MIDI inputs that are found just after the software starts. The updated version handles these errors more gracefully. The error here was not critical, and was handled later when the MIDI devices are loaded into the drop-list at the top-right of the software.
Thanks again,
Will
PS: I will be posting a tutorial/sample RackAFX project that details the VU meters and XY Pad setup soon.

Need to update https://rackafx.com/rackafx/downloads/
I was able to get the new version by copying the link and setting the build number to 3.
