CMake for Exporting Projects? Do you hate me?

No I don't hate you. I was also reluctant to adopt CMake for generating the AAX, AU and VST exported projects as well - I liked the old way of having a folder created for me that already included the compiler project files. But, the VST3 SDK 3.6.8 changed my opinion on CMake. As I developed the CMake scripts for the (old) Make VST function, I realized how many problems it really solves in the end. These include:

- creating compiler projects specifically for your particular compiler and OS; this also solves issues with some non-english characters such as the German umlaut appearing in user computer names

- allowing your ported project folders to reside nearly anywhere inside or outside of the SDK folder(s)

- allowing you to create universal API projects and compile all your plugins at once

- easily modifying the folder hierarchies so you can customize it as you wish

I wrote this introduction to CMake technical note specifically to address questions about how and why it was adopted for use.
