This is explained in page 383:

"You might notice something strange about Figure 11.29 —it has no output y ( n ) node. In fact, the left and right outputs are taken from various locations within the delay lines, marked a–f in the diagram."

So, those numbers in brackets are the sample locations within the delay lines 1-4 and the delaying APFs 5 and 6. And they are different locations (and polarities) for left and right outputs.
