Today August 23, 2016 I have uploaded the new VST3 Synth Projects for the VST3 SDK 3.6.6 which corrects any/all problems you may have with the original Synth projects and using SDK3.6.6, streamlines code, works better with Reaper, and all synths pass VST Validation testing 100%. They have all been fully tested in both configurations (Debug/Release) as well as both bit-sizes (32 and 64 bit) and will all compile properly and generate proper plugins. Make sure you follow directions in the book about where to located the projects within the VST3 folder hierarchy. Also read the notice about Steinberg changing their naming conventions of the VS project files; make sure to read the "How To Compile..." text file inside each project folder to make sure you use the proper .sln file for your flavor of Visual Studio.
In addition, these new projects all contain the VST2 wrapper code for use in VST2 hosts (though you will not be able to use the VST3 host built-in GUI editor tool in VST2 hosts).
You can download the projects at:
You must use the VST3 SDK 3.6.6 which was released in June 2016 from Steinberg.
