RackAFX 22.214.171.124, Windows 10, Visual Studio Community 2015 14.0.25431.01 Update 3:
I have been trying to build the examples (FX and Synth) on the Download page. If I build the projects in RackAFX (starting with MiniSynth), I can load them in Reaper (5.32) but the controls are all Reaper default (a long list of sliders). These look like client controls.
If I edit the RackAFX Project Properties and set it to "Use RackAFX Custom GUI", the plugin builds fine in Visual Studio, but has an entirely blanks canvas/GUI in Reaper.
If I then load the built plugin in RackAFX and go to Prototype, the controls are there. However, if I switch to the GUI Designer tab, everything is blank (the knob lists etc are under Templates, but nothing at all is on the right hand pane). Hitting Update does nothing.
If I export the plugin as a VST, then build the VST3 from the new solution, the plugin loads fine into Reaper (or the Steinberg test host), but the GUI is again entirely blank.
I have run out of intelligent things to try. I expect that I should be able to see some sort of GUI for these plugins, right?

The book projects do not contain GUIs; the Synth book AU and VST plugins DO include the GUIs but not the RackAFX plugins. The decision was to let the user build/assemble the RackAFX plugin GUIs for themselves; part of the issue is that the GUI Designer changed to use the VSTGUI4 library - making the GUIs platform independent - after the second (synth) book was released. There is actually a slight mismatch of the GUI Designer images in the book, with the newest (and best) version available in 126.96.36.199.
Second editions of these books will include full GUIs for all APIs now that the GUI Designer has been solidified.
