Hi Will,

will the new RackAFX Version compile AU Instruments (like it does with VST Instruments) or are there still limitations?

regards

Peter

Hi Peter

You are correct - the "Make AU" button does not work for synth plug-ins, and the AU Template generator (as well as the VST Template generator) also only makes FX plug-ins right now.

The answer is YES, however I have not implemented it yet - this will be added to a big release that will happen when my new book is in print, November-December of this year. I am also planning on adding an "Make VST3" to support that as well. And, I am planning on adding Synth Template generators as well.

BTW the VST3 and AU projects in my new synth book do not use a RackAFX wrapper - they are pure native code.

Hi Will,

This is great news for me!
Do you see any chance (in the future) to transfer the RackAFX GUI directly to the AU Plugins, like it works with VST??
(I know this is hard, but maybe you discovered a trick ??)

regards

Peter

Hi Peter

No, I wrote the VST GUI library with Microsoft MFC and can't port directly. However, I am considering having a default AU GUI with controls in place that you finish wiring in code. It really is not that difficult once the controls are in place. This ties in with the way I implemented all the AU instrument GUIs in my new book - with as little glue code that you need to write as possible. However, I will be reusing some new controls so that the same knob appears in all three APIs (RAFX, VST3 and AU).

- Will

PS: if you find info in porting MFC to Cocoa please share it with me!
